Finished Machine of Death last night. It's really good - over 400 pages of thoughtful, interesting and entertaning stories and illustrations. The stories are diverse in style and content, but they hang together because they all hinge on that common premise that Machine of Death exists.
Some nice thinky stuff about free will and fate and information and entropy. Also nice to confirm that I can recognize the style of at least a few of the webcomic artists I regularly read.
Naturally, I had to pause and think about what H's slip would have said. Probably not pneumonia, but who knows? it still would have been a surprise if it had, which is part of the Machine of Death premise. Would we have done anything differently with that hint of foreknowledge? If I had a time machine or could get a message to the past, is there a point where a difference could have been made? From the vantage of the ever-moving present, it doesn't seem like it.
