Yes, the old-timey crank kind, exactly! Only when I went looking for them I discovered OXO makes a super modern version that comes all apart for cleaning and has a comfy handle.

I kind of like that it's not electric - so I can whip cream if the power goes out, I suppose, but mostly because it's quiet. Same functionality as a hand mixer, though, I think, though I have never had one of those, it's been whisk or stand mixer up til now. It's a hole in my kitchen gadgetry, but I think the eggbeater fills the niche...
