Idle Musing on Not Being So Idle

Man, there is a business down the street that I could totally buy. I wish I had some sort of shop-I-would-like-to open idea, because this would be a golden opportunity to put the old MBA to use. It's currently a thrift store of sorts, focused on records - I haven't even been in it, it's dark and forbidding looking at the moment - and the guy wants to sell all the inventory included, so one could theoretically just keep selling whatever's there while transitioning to whatever one actually wanted to sell.

So tempting. Walking three blocks to work for myself would be pretty sweet. But what on earth would I sell? Used books and outdoor equipment are the only things I know anything about, and I am not current with either anymore...

I hear ya. I don't have an MBA, but I am so tempted to start a little shop of my own so I could be my own boss. I'd like to do a coffee shop where folks could check out e-readers to use while they're drinking they're coffee (like swap your ID for the e-reader, so folks don't walk off with them). Especially in my neighborhood. It's very much lower class, where folks don't have a lot of dough and there is nothing close by. Most people ride the bus and the closest book stores are at the malls which are at the far ends of town. The closest library is four miles away in the worst area of town. This way, they could read, drink coffee and it would all be within walking distance of some of the poorest areas of town. They'd get cheap reads and I'd make money off the coffee.
