A while ago (a month? Maybe more), Henry and I went out to eat in beautiful downtown Benicia, and parked on a side street that looked like it had a little park where it dead-ended down by the water. So after we ate, we sauntered down to see what was what. It turned out to be the beginning of one of the coastal access trails that dot the area - fruits of that no private beaches legislation that got passed a few years back. This particular access had a paved trail that hugged the coast around a whole new development, and a sign down the way a bit that declared the whole thing part of the Bay Trail with a rather confusing map of how it went on. Very nice.

So I looked into it and bought the 6 maps that cover the bay trail and we decided to walk a piece of it every Saturday. The every Saturday part hasn't really worked out (my life is okay with average, but resists all things routine). but we have done four more pieces. On Monday we decided to do the part that is closest to our house - down Military East to Fifth, and then down Fifth to the Marina. Not terribly scenic (it's the same route we take to get on the freeway, after all), but I get to highlight it on the map.

According to the Nike+ iPod pedometer thing, we walked 2.7 miles. In the first quarter mile, I stepped wrong and twisted my ankle - didn't trip over anything, no hole in the sidewalk or rock in my shoe, just put my foot down wrong. Today it feels a little bruised and sore but not swollen or anything, so no real harm done.

We won't get to do the next stretch this Saturday, as we will be in Yosemite! Yay! I might try to get us to cover the short bit between where we left off and the marina, just so it's done, but it won't be on Saturday.
