First the update: I am pretty okay. Sometimes I am really sad and other times really angry, but those both pass pretty quickly and most of the time I am just kind of in a fog but managing to get by. Which is not too bad. I have been overwhelmed by love and support from friends near and far, and that is probably why I am as okay as I am. I have thoughts on sitting shiva and all that, but they are both big and jumbled, so that will have to wait.

By "stuff" I mean literally physical things. I got the last of H's possessions today - his backpack and contents that the police were holding, and the Toyota. The Alameda police were so nice - super efficient and waiving fees and that was just great. The car had been towed for storage so that it would be secure for the taking of fingerprints and so forth. We (mom and dad went with me, I'm probably still not up to driving to and from Alameda) decided to have lunch between the police and the tow yard, I forget the name of the place, but there's an Indian restaurant on Park in Alameda that is really good. I tried a salt lassi and decided I like it.

Got to the tow yard. They charged me $150 for the initial tow and $50 a day storage. That's the lowest of the several possible rates they charge, so, yay I guess. The cash the b.org had given me covered it (which, btw, how awesome is that?), so that was pretty easy for me, but how devastating for people in similar situations that don't have those kinds of resources.

Dad drove my car back to Suisun and I rode with mom. Dad decided to get me gas on the way.  Fortunately he waited until he was close to my house because after he filled up, the car refused to start. We went down and joined him at the gas station, he was pretty sure it was the battery (it was a Walmart battery that I had bought in Houston while fleeing Katrina, so (a) it was 5 years old and (b) these are the kinds of circumstances under which I need batteries, apparently). Again, fortunately, there's an Autozone right there so we could buy a battery and tools and do the swap and presto changeo the car runs fine. Yay.

Came home and filled out my health insurance continuation form - I can keep my group coverage through Motorola for 3 years, which is pretty sweet, but they need the form back, like, really fast.

Exhausted, now. That was a lot of being out in the world after really not doing much of that. Have changed into Inside clothes and getting ready to eat leftover lamb korma and watch V (I can't concentrate enough to watch anything for which I actually care about following the storyline, but V is pretty not good so if I drift off it doesn't matter) for a bit. Some NA people are coming by later, I was half ready to beg off seeing them, but I think it'll be fine. They're so nice and I actually have something semi-new to talk about.

Tomorrow, I get to vote. I'm looking forward to it even though I am probably as ill-informed as I have been since i've been voting. It's a nice walk to City Hall, regardless. I'm going to try to go to a yoga class at my gym, also. That will require driving which, now that I think about it, I'm not sure when I last drove before all this went down. It's not uncommon for me to go the better part of a week without driving under normal circumstances. Huh. Well, I'm sure I will remember how, and it's only 2 miles. I can even go side streets all the way if I want.

Yeah, that might be enough adventure for one day.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for the update, -t. I'm glad your family has been there to help out. Sounds like getting out to vote, tomorrow, is a good way to start interacting with the world. Maybe not people just yet, but the world.
