Continuing to Fulfil Predictions
Dec. 23rd, 2010 06:13 pmGot over to the Oakland Museum to finish off the Pixar Exhibit with Mom - we went on her birthday (in November), which turned out to be a Free Sunday so our reservations were no good and our entry time wasn't until 3;30. The museum closes at 5 on Sundays, and an hour and a half was not enough time for us to see the whole exhibit. Mom and I are both slow at going through museums, we tend to pore over things.
So today was NOT a free day, so mom got us reservations using her museum membership making it was darn close to free. We had lunch with my dad before at a newish Chinese restaurant near their house (Zen Cafe) that was quite good. I decided to get a lunch special because I had no way to handle leftovers, so I will have to go back and try their crispy duck (I loved the crispy duck at Kung's in NO and would love to find similar somewhere). If I read their menu correctly, they have two kinds!
Then BART to museum, got there a little early so browsed the gift shop and gardens (since it wasn't raining, for once), finished off Pixar, and looked at a little of the History section. Then back to their house for tea and some fancy cookies she had leftover from a neighborhood dessert potluck - ginger snaps dipped in chocolate, lemon biscotti, and an apricot blondie. Nom!
AND she had Xmas presents for me - which she had ordered for Channukah but they didn't come until now, so, whatever. A set of purple precision tools, because everyone needs more tiny screwdrivers, and a "yarn bowl". It's pretty neat, a ceramic bowl with a spiral but into the lip that you can thread your yarn through, leaving the ball in the bowl. Supposedly, you pull the yarn through the cut and the ball bounces around inside the bowl as it unskeins but doesn't go zooming off across the floor. I'll have to try it out. It certainly looks very nice.
And got home before dark, which makes the evening feel more like evening than the middle of the night.
I do not have to go anywhere or particularly do anything tomorrow. Whew.
