I'm not sure I understand it but I'll take a shot:

March 1971: house on Degnan in Martinez, CA with parents and older brother - I think, could have been the little house on E Street. I was two, I don't really remember.

March 1981: house on Munal in Baton Rouge, sharing a room with my sister in my parents' house. I was in Middle School, which now seems like just two years of constant change all the time

March 1991: living at my parents' house in Martinez, working as a substitute teacher in two districts by day and at a  movie theater in the evenings, saving up for my first attempt at grad school and a teaching certificate and somehow managing to see quite a few Dead shows.

March 2001: Renting on Thalia Street, in the LGD in New Orleans, the one bedroom apartment that felt like a palace because it had a closet, with Henry and three cats (Nemo, Jadzia, and Pixie). Probably the best Mardi Gras location we lived at - we didn't get trapped by parades, but had an easy walk to see them. Selling outdoorsy stuff at Adventure Sports for a living.

March 2011: Owning in Suisun City, widowed me and three cats (Jadzia, Pixie and Wednesday) and one dog (Walter). Three bedroom house with a nice fenced  yard - a huge amount of space, considering. No job.

This reminds me of some of the genealogy research my mom has done. My maternal grandmother's grandparents were divorced early in the 20th century and are listed as such in the 1930 census. On the 1940 census, they are each listed as widowed even though they both lived in the same town not far from each other and near their mutual family. Gotta wonder at the shift in social mores that made that happen.
