NYT Xword Puzzles
Nov. 5th, 2011 08:22 pmThere's an Across Lite for Lion! Hooray! Seriously, that was bumming me out, not having official NYTimes approved crossword puzzle action on my laptop. The new app is not quite as polished as the Snow Leopard version, but I guess that is to be expected. Hopefully they'll have it up to snuff soon. I hope it'll sync with the iPad eventually. There's a crossword app that does that already, but it doesn't give me the right reward for completing a puzzle, and I am silly enough that that matters a great deal, apparently.
I caught up enough on October crossword puzzles to get through the week long meta puzzle. Friday's downloadable puzzle from that eek (Oct 21) was totally different from the PDF (which I assume is what was in the paper) AND doesn't yield the right letters for the meta puzzle. I call shenanigans. Though they may have said so at the time, but there's no indication in the archive! The pdf version looks a lot more interesting, too, though printing it out so I can actually solve it is too much trouble.
Eta: the NYTXword app on the iPad did explain that the Friday puzzle could not be digitally rendered (or something, I am paraphrasing wildly) and to get the pdf version. My bad luck that I tried to do it on the laptop, which had no such explanation. But, hey, I figured it out eventually and it's not like there was ever any chance that Id be in time to submit and answer for a prize.
