Stuff and Things, Mostly Food-related
Sep. 6th, 2012 03:55 pmI fel like I have been getting nothing done lately. Like, today I should have gone grocery shopping and maybe watered my mother's plants and seen Batman. I suppose that is still theoretically possible as the day is not over, but, really, it's not gonna happen. And Batman is leaving my local IMAX, so I may have to go further afield if I want to see it on the giant screen.
But I have kept up with watering my plants and keeping me and the critters fed and been on top of my dishes (the soufflé-making stuff is currently on the counter, but it should all fit into the dishwasher and then I will have no dirty dishes!), so not entirely idle. Just successfully made a Bacon Cheeseburger Soufflé (3 more in the freezer, to test how well this freezing soufflés before baking them trick works) and it was seriously yum. A few days ago I turned last week's poached chicken into a mousse line-like thing and folded peas and carrots into it, then made that into a fancy chicken and dumpling soup, and also a really chicken pot pie. On their way out of town, Mom and Dad dropped off a bunch of plums and pluots (or maybe aprums, one of those hybrids) and I turned them into a stone fruit and custard pie. Tastes kind of like a pie a la mode, so I'm pleased with that. Good thing, too, because it's a normal 9" pie and I'll be eating it for another few days.
The Wii continues to work and I've been able to add some Wii Fit time into my schedule pretty easily. It gets me started doing stuff earlier in the day to get some exercise right away, but then I get more tired from, you know, doing more. Eventually I should get more stamina, but in the short term it's kind of a wash. And the WiiFit helpfully tracks my weight, so now I know that I've gained about 30 pounds since I last paid attention (which was . . . a long time ago). My clothes are tighter than I'd like, and I don't really want to have buy more, so I think I will put my new found love for custards and soufflés and eggs in general to good use and eat a low-carb diet for a while. Starting after I finish that pie.
