The Duality of Lunch
Sep. 28th, 2012 04:39 pmThe bad news is, I didn't actually eat it until four in the afternoon. Which I shouldn't do. But I am kind of an idiot - I went to water my mom's plants today, and I got to their place at noon, and then I decided to go grocery shopping on the way back, and once I got home and got the groceries put away I had to make mayonnaise....
The good news is it was delicious. Crab salad in avocado, nom nom nom. And I am pretty sure I have found my One True Mayo Making Technique - mechanical eggbeaters for the whisking and the oil in a squeeze bottle for easy adding (I've had no luck with the immersion blender way). I can't remember where the Emulsify song came from, but it is stuck in my head now. Have I posted about how much I love my mechanical eggbeaters? It's a lot. I don't know why it took me so long to realize that they are exactly what I need for so many things - soufflés, mayonnaise, whipped cream
Also, I finally squeezed that lemon from my mystery citrus tree and it is definitely a lemon, and i got 1/4 cup of juice out of it, which seems like a lot for a single lemon. It also had a pretty thick rind, so I think it probably could have stood to stay on the tree for a while later. All signs point to Ponderosa Lemon.
Oh, the other thing I did today was shift some of my frozen stewing hens over to my parents freezer annex, thus making room for my groceries and future leftovers. Yay!
