What was happening with me yesterday? Oh, right:

• 12:39 My Random Baking is spreading to bread. I used to be so good about following recipes. Well, no, I never was, but I was better than this!
• 17:00 I have room on the counter for a cooling rack without making a special effort to clear space. That makes a nice change.
• 18:00 Sofa Control is definitely my new favorite Mac application.

Hee. The SO was mocking me the other day because I was all, "Guess what? I actually followed the recipe and the bread came out!" He was like, "..."

But I swear I thought I had the recipe memorized. I dunno why it doesn't come out when I do it from my brane!

This was even worse. I set out to try a recipe I'd never made before, Sourdough Challah not using any store-bought yeast, and went so far as to do the sourdough starter feeding and refreshing, but didn't have eggs and lost the will to go out and get eggs. But not the will to turn the refreshed starter into bread, so I found another recipe to guesstimate how much flour and water to add to make a dough and was completely unorthodox about kneading and letting the dough rise and/or rest (partially because I got confused by looking at different recipes and forgetting what instructions came from where and what I had already done....) and guessed some more about baking times and temperatures and generally flailed about with little direction or reason.

But you know what? It was still bread when I was done.

And this morning it's toast.
