So, let me start out by saying that I am home and fine.
I spent yesterday at the ER. Thursday night, midnightish, I started having abdominal pains, which I attributed to maybe that applesauce that was a year past its "best by" date. Took some baking soda, no improvement. After not being able to get to sleep for another couple of hours, tried some more baking soda. No improvement. Started to feel like if I threw up, maybe I would feel better. That proved to be incorrect. Twice. At one point I decided a hot bath might help, and it did, some, but the water got cold and my hot water heater can't handle two baths in a row. Tried a hot shower later, and that helped a little, but not for long. Basically, it wasn't unbearable pain, but it just wouldn't go away and it was enough to keep me from being able to sleep.
I told the doctor it had come on suddenly, but it was not so bad when it started as it was in the morning, now that I am considering it clear-headedly. I'll try to remember that
Realized once it got to be morning that I could call my mom and have her come take care of me, so I did that. We headed over to the ER, where the first thing they did was give me fluids and some kind of anti-nausea drug and dilaudin. Which kicked the ass of that pain, fantastic, but meant when the doctor came to ask me specific questions about location and severity of pain I'm not sure how accurate I was. I was (a) so loopy and (b) not feeling the pain anymore, so had to try to remember.
They ran bunches of tests - urinalysis, a CT scan, blood tests, some sort of radiation scan for my lungs, ultrasound of my legs looking for blood clots. There was a little bit of blood in my urine (only red blood cells, not white, so not an infection? I'm trying to remember what the doctor told me while I was all loopy), but my kidneys didn't look inflamed, but maybe it was a kidney stone. Or possibly my gall bladder being wonky though that looked normal, too.
Whatever it was, spending all day on painkillers and anti-nausea meds and basically sleeping all day in between tests seems to have taken care of it. I have a little pain, but it's SO MUCH less, and a different quality, more like bruised and sore. I've got more anti-nausea stuff, which I plan on taking every 4 hours until I run out, and vicodin, which I'm going to try only taking at night in hopes that I will actually be able to do things other than sleep during the day. Clear liquids until I feel up to eating. I expect I'll know that when I see it. I guess I need to go see my PCP this week for following up
Mom spent the night on my love seat, just in case, and washed all my dishes (to have something to do while I dozed, I expect) and made me some jello and went out and got me ginger ale and beef broth, so I have a variety of sustenance.
