In Which I Eat Actual Food

Yes, it's very exciting. I decided to cook myself up a pan of chicken livers. Does that seem like a strange choice for first solid food in a week? I dunno, I had them, and they sounded tasty and easily digested and I sure as hell wanted some protein. In any case, stomach seems pleased.
I now have a giant vat of stock simmering on the stove. I cooked one of my "stock" chickens following the Cook's Illustrated Chicken in a Pot recipe (though substituting a leek for the celery and onion because I had a leek and I didn't have celery and onion), and used the juices fro that to start the stock, adding all the vegetables from my fridge that I know I won't get around to eating on their own but are still okay for soup (it was more than I expected) and the chicken carcass after I carved off the meat (this process drove Wednesday INSANE - I'm not sure if she knows what that delicious smell of cooked chicken is, but she knows she wants it and will climb my whole body to get it). Had to get the giant pot (I forget how giant, 5 gallons maybe? It's very big) down to hold it all. I plan to cook it for hours and hours and then strain out all the solids and see what I have. Should be flavorful, at least.
My other plan is to have pancakes for dinner. If that doesn't work out I can push them to tomorrow pretty easily. And if that doesn't work out I will be sad at the pancakelessness, but that's not so bad.

Date: 2010-11-05 10:12 pm (UTC)Chicken livers does not sound weird for a first solid food! It's packed full of nutrients and iron and protein and all kinds of stuff in a small package. Your body probably knew what it needed. I crave liver sometimes on my period.
Anyway, yay for stock, yay for pancake plan and back-up plan.
