Decisions, decisions
Jul. 14th, 2006 03:31 pmSo, DH got an offer from a company in Emeryville in the router business. It is for not much more money than he makes now; he might get more just by sticking with the current company and getting his annual raise. He'd lose a week of vacation time a year. And he'd have to actually go into the office, maybe not every day, but certainly more than he does now. OTOH, he enjoyed interviewing over there, likes the corporate culture (what he's seen of it) and was pretty enthusiastic about what work he'd be doing before the salary negotiations started. He's feeling kinda dissed now - they asked in the interview what salary he was looking for, and what he's making now; they offered him way less than he said he wanted, slightly more than he's making; he countered with a number still less than what he really wanted but one that would be an actual increase over staying with the current company; they didn't budge from their original offer, except to add stock options (which neither of us value highly, having been burned by that already) and promise a salary review in January.
Neither of us has been in a position to turn down a job offer because the salary is too low, so this is all uncharted territory.
We have gotten as far as deciding to postpone the decision (or reporting the decision) until Monday.
If anyone has advice, I'd be interested to hear it.
