I'm gonna say it, then you can research or not/use or not as you please. My floor refinisher and most of my hardwood-floor-having neighbors swear that Murphy's Oil Soap is bad for wood floors because it leaves some residue on the wood (as does Swiffer, apparently). They claim that Swedish Bona hardwood floor cleaning spray-and-wipe is the only way to go. I don't have any personal experience with Murphy's, but Bona is great. Our good local hardware store with the good lumberyard sells bottles of the cleaner, the mops, the washable terrycloth mop ... hats? booties? thingies? as does Restoration Hardware, for a little more money. FYI.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

At this point, my hardwood floors have a lot of dust and paint and grime on them - one having just been liberated from the yoke of the carpet and one having been exposed to the previous owners less than tender ministrations - so I'm guessing that a little Murphy's oil residue would be a good trade. But for the long run, I will look into that Bona stuff. Some place near me must carry it.

Yeah, sounds like it might be a good trade, since, come to think of it, everyone was talking about newly-refinished floors in my instances.
