I have designed for myself an elaborate diet plan that starts with a juice fast and ends with a low-calorie balanced nutrition diet that I will stay on for like a year. To make it interesting I am changing what I can and cannot eat every 5 days for the first little bit. I figure the longer I can keep it novel the longer I can actually stick to it. It's ambitious as all get out, but if it works I will actually be at a healthy weight before too long, and that will be nice.

I'm winding up the 5-day juice fast portion today. Tomorrow I get to eat salads - i have never looked forward to lettuce more! But the "fast" has been surprisingly easy. It probably helps that, knowing I am taking in very few calories, i have given myself permission to laze about and not exert myself whenever I feel like it. I hope that as I eat more I'll be able to take advantage of the extra energy to do more. It seems to me that's how it has worked when I've done similar things in the past - I've always liked fasting and have done it at random intervals and to varying degrees since I was a teenager.

And yet, Yom Kippur this year, didn't fast. DH couldn't take the time off from work to spend all day in services, and I just didn't bother. And now I'm fasting during Sukkot. I think my heretofore theoretical resentment of Jewish holidays from the timing of my miscarriages is manifesting itself. I'll have to think about how to get over that.

Go you! That's amazing willpower, even if you've always liked fasting. Especially with H in the house eating food!

Thanks! H has been really sweet and not eating yummy stuff in front of me. Seems like this has been one of those times when making a radical change is easier than doing something smaller and apparently more manageable. Nice when that works out.
