Well, I've hit the point in the day when I look at my To Do List and think either "that's not happening" or "can't do that until later" for every item. So I thought I'd remind myself that I have accomplished a few things today:
  • flea-treated the dog and all three cats
  • fed myself a couple of meals
  • stripped the bed and remade it with fresh sheets
  • kneaded bread dough in hopes that it will eventually rise even in the cold
  • ran the dishwasher that I loaded but forgot to run last night
Considering that not long ago any one of those would have been all I'd be able to do in a day, that's not bad.

I have stayed inside, and in inside pants, all day, so I need to get out into the world tomorrow as part of Operation Go Out Every Other Day.

So that's, like, half of yesterday's to-do list more or less done after two days. That's not bad.

I was supposed to get my haircut today. I was weirdly nervous about it, thinking about how I'd tell Amy who cuts my hair what happened, or if I even would. I ended up waiting for 25 minutes after my appt time and decided to bail, partially because I had also forgotten to bring a magazine or iPod or anything and 25 minutes of just waiting was plenty. And Amy just called and offerred me a free conditioning or waxing or something to make up for it. I feel bad for making her feel bad about it - it's so not a problem that she ran long, I just don't want to bother with any of that right now. I am still trying to work out if moisturizing is worth the effort, and it takes two minutes at home

Before that, Mom came by and we went to lunch and she helped me with some yard work. That was nice.

My cunning plan to mix up a batch of 2-egg quickbread batter (4:1 sourdough starter:egg by weight, plus a teaspoon of baking powder/egg, maybe some sugar if I remember) early in the week and use it for several days breakfast is working out pretty well so far. Pancakes yesterday, waffles today, I think muffins tomorrow which will probably use it up  - though it will also produce more than one breakfast's worth of muffins, I suspect.

...how about one for tomorrow? To wit
  • Take the dog for a walk
  • Get the broken branches off the front lawn (as much done as it's gonna be for a few days, anyway)
  • Plant the blanket flower that I can't remember the proper name of
  • Water the Walking Stick and the Camellia
  • Mow
  • Edge
  • Weed flower bed
  • Sweep porch, sidewalk and driveway
  • Feed birds
  • Pancakes
  • Find teflon tape
Not necessarily in that order, and if I can get any of it done it'll be a success. Supposed to be a lot less hot tomorrow, I think, but I hope to get an early start just in case I need to cower inside in the afternoon.

  1. Half-hour on the WiiFit. I think I have settled on a good way to get some benefit from it without having it take over my life
  2. Found my purse (with help from DH (it was way more of a challenge than it should have been))
  3. Exchanged Putnam County Spelling Bee tickets for a night when everyone can go
  4. Deposited three(3) checks, including two(2) $20 refunds for doctor's visit copays in 2005
  5. Bought birdseed that I have needed to buy for, oh, a month
  6. Also dog food and catfood, but not overdue on those
  7. Sat around discussing the properties of clay and the techniques of sedimentologists with my parents. Dad loves Wikipedia
  8. Got stuck in inevitable Friday afternoon traffic with many Subaru Outbacks bound for Tahoe
  9. Picked up meals from gym. Had planned to work out at this point, but I hoped to get the food home to DH in time for him to have dinner before his Fri night meeting so skipped that. DH was not home, anyway, but I would not have enjoyed working out at that point - tired and hungry and hot. Will go tomorrow morning.
  10. Tried on new shoes! I think they will be fine, though socks are suboptimal. Definitely easier to get on than the old ones, but fit is a little different. I hope they will break in a little bit more comfortably.
  11. Posted to livejournl, yay
Not bad.

I am getting overwhelmed with all the stuff I need to get done over the next little while, so I'm going to write it all down here so it's somewhere other than inside my head. Behind the cut, because BORING.

That actually helped. I think I need to make the housecleaning/arranging stuff more of a priority than it's been lately. One of these days it will be time to make sipping tea and reading murder mysteries my top priority. Sigh.

Oh, hey, a nearby chemical plant is on fire. Great. Maybe tomorrow we'll have locusts.

I keep thinking about stuff I would like to post about but not doing it. It seems like I should be able to get everything I need to get done in a day actually done, at least some of the time, but it isn't happening lately.

Anyway, this is really just a note to myself to go back and write some stuff up. To wit:
What I Did on my Spring Vacation
Working, External Motivation, and Me
Passover Prep
Do I Keep Reading Norman Spinrad?
Wheee, Piano!
Things that Bug Me on TV (Terminator and Blood Types, Mud on Bones)

That looks do-able. Take that, brain gerbils.

I got a High Definition DVR/Cable Box from Comcast today.

The opening graphics of the Newshour with Jim Lehrer is so beautiful I might cry. Animal Planet/Discover/National Geographic is going to kill me, I can tell.

I might need a HD Homerun for easy transfer to iPods and those occasions when I need to record four things at once (Thursday nights, I'm looking at you)

I am incredibly close to being done with the old house. I have one cooler-load of beverage to rescue from the fridge, two rugs to haul over, and then it's just however much cleaning I feel like doing and piling the trash up on the street. If DH takes tomorrow off (as he said he might), we should finish tomorrow. So ready to be done.

Then I can start unpacking in earnest. More work, but at least it's for my own benefit.

Moved In!

The movers have left, all the furniture is approximately where it's supposed to be (except my vanity mirror which I will move with my parents tomorrow), and many boxes are out in the shed so the house is fairly passable. Yay!

I think the biggest excitement of the day was realizing that the movers packed up the key to my bike lock before I had unlocked it from the back stairs. Whoops. We went to Ace hardware and bought some serious snips and an even more serious bolt cutter. Snip through the sheath, cut through the wire, freedom for my bike. How lucky that that was the worst thing to happen, right?

The cats are in the blue room, locked in but free to move around in there, with a clean litter box and fresh food and water. I might leave them in there for the night, I'm not sure. They're pretty mad at me. And they are not meowing to come out. If they do I will probably give them the run of the house. Keeping them inside is hard, but I will try to do it for a day or two.

The dog is curled up by DH's feet. I think he is wondering when we will go home.

Still have the mirror to move, some other small things that got left, and cleaning at the old place. Have a week to do that. At the new, there's just unpacking, some minor furniture moving, an installing the things that cover the borders between different types of floors where they go. And window treatments, but i haven't worked out my vision for those, yet. And setting the new TV up. And connecting the porch light, but that's DH's job.

Washer and Dryer probably gets delivered next Wednesday.

Yay.

I had a lovely day yesterday. Not much of it would fit into the traditional idea of Thanksgiving. DH and I, oh, and Walter, headed over to my parents' place around noon. They met us outside and swept us off in their Prius up to Mt. Diablo, where we picnicked at a picturesque but cold and windy spot. We all agreed that the view was worth it. Mom had braved Whole Foods on Tuesday to pick up an assortment of things to eat, including roasted vegetables, some sort of squash salad with cranberries, green beans, brussel sprouts with pecans, a tofu and rice thing for them and some deli sliced turkey for the carnivores. Mom wasn't sure that would be enough, so she made some rice and cranberry pilaf that was delicious. Once we'd all eaten enough and decided we'd had enough wind, we packed up the dishes and leftovers and headed up to the summit. We headed directly to the observation deck on the roof of the visitor's center and looked at various landmarks through Dad's spotting scope. It was pretty clear - we could see Suisun and the Golden Gate Bridge and the Sutter Buttes, and could even pick out the Transamerica Building with the scope. We followed that up with a leisure stroll around the Fire Trail (it's got another name now, but I don't recall who it's been dedicated to) and made it back to the car before sunset (when the park closes). Back at my folks' house, we had time to sit in front of the fire and have tea and "pumpkin pie bars", which were good though not really pie like, and start playing a "Thanksgiving Trivia" game that my mom had cut out of the paper. We had to take off before finishing the game so DH could get to a meeting while I lolled about at home, enjoying not painting or cleaning or anything. When he got home we were both hungry again (weird how that happens) so he heated up some Matzo Ball soup, gobbled it up, and went to bed.

Nice day.

Today we cleared out the new house in preparation for moving in, put all the switch plates and so forth back where they belong, vacuumed, mopped, set up the Mac Mini and the phone and accepted delivery on our new TV, though we didn't set it up yet.

Still to do
So close!

Not interesting, just getting it out of my head and onto the screen so I can sleep tonight. Therefore it goes Expandbehind the cut tag )

Not too bad. I know the Suisun stuff is doable, and there's approximately the same amount to do in Benicia. And DH will be able to help me on Friday, Thursday to the extent that we do any work, and possibly Wednesday.

  1.  Washed two loads of dishes in dishwasher
  2. Put one away
  3. Wrote 1797 words for NaNoWriMo
  4. Worked myself into a panic attack over giving notice of intent to quit apartment. Yeah, I don't know why.
  5. Paid one bill and this month's rent

Intend to do tomorrow
  1. Get blood drawn
  2. Pay the rest of my bills
  3. Pick up Adderall prescription and get it filled {Not happening until Monday. Just not}
  4. Make my daily word quota again a little short, but I'll do today
  5. Do some laundry {Maybe Saturday. Maybe not}

Hm. Laid out like that, it looks reasonable. Cool.
